$974,000 in grants aim at great results for our community
The first grants have been awarded under the new Result Framework developed by the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham as a way to focus all our work. Thanks to the donors from the past who made gifts and left bequests to our Community Funds and to donors today who are combining grants from Advised Funds, almost $1 million was available for the first two of four specific and measurable results:
• $530,000 toward this Result: People can lead healthy lives.
• $444,000 toward this Result: Children are successful along the education pipeline.
Find out more about our grantmaking process, including the nonprofit partners and the proposals they are working on. And watch for the results of the second grant cycle for 2011, which opens June 6. That’s when nonprofit organizations serving Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties will have the opportunity to submit brief proposals about tackling the other two Results in the framework:
• Communities are sustainable, livable and vibrant.
• Individuals and families are economically secure.
Strong proposals, exciting collaborations and new approaches to important strategies — all these are reasons for hope as we work together to help our community move forward toward the results they want for themselves.
