Community Funds plant seed for future
When The Community Foundation began in 1959, blast furnaces darkened the sky around Birmingham, the Metropolitan Opera was still presenting its annual tour at Boutwell Auditorium and University of Alabama Medical School was starting its 15th year on a small campus south of downtown.

Today, UAB is the largest employer, the Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham leads a regional effort to boost opportunities for the arts and a new biomedical research building stands tall on a midtown corner.

Yet our community still struggles with issues such as affordable housing, public transportation, green space, teacher training and access to early education and care.

Changing times, consistent support
Whatever the needs, The Community Foundation continues to support efforts to make life better in greater Birmingham through our Community Funds, the unrestricted endowment that benefits our five-county area.

Community Funds are the savings account for our community, set aside by far-sighted donors in the past to meet the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow.  There is no minimum requirement for a gift to Community Funds.

They are open to individuals, families, groups, clubs or corporations – and you can even pick a particular field of interest, if you want to make sure your gift focuses on a certain issue.

Your gift will make sure this endowment grows to meet the needs that are just around the corner.
