The power of endowment

A $3 million bequest from the estate of Margaret Cameron Spain in 1972 is worth $27.1 million today. In just 35 years, the grantmaking fund established with that unrestricted gift gave away $26.8 million to local nonprofit organizations. Those grants will continue to transform this community forever, while the Community Fund established to honor the Spain family keeps on growing and giving in perpetuity.
