From apartment complex to family legacy

A local donor saved capital gains and excise taxes by choosing the Charitable Real Estate Foundation for a gift of a 65-unit apartment complex in 2006. The result was a $1.5 million gift to charity, which the donor used to establish a Family Advised Fund at the Community Foundation.

Today that relationship continues to grow, as the family learns more about the community and about the philanthropic passions of the next generation. A simple transaction has opened the door for so much more, thanks to flexible options for real estate giving.
