Maria Campbell builds community with future gift

Maria Campbell came to Birmingham as a newly minted lawyer, finding in her adopted city a sense of humility and the chance to become deeply involved in civic and church life. Today she reflects on what it means to be a partner with the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham and to have established a legacy gift that includes the creation of a Community Catalyst Fund in her name.

“The Community Foundation has the resources to bring together the present and the future and the flexibility to work with each budding philanthropist, tailoring every plan to meet individual needs,” Campbell said. “That is a rare combination.”

She trusts the Community Foundation to make sure that her charitable desires will be realized long after her death. And, because of the structure of Community Catalyst Funds, she is already able to experience  the excitement of Prize2theFuture, the first investment from this new resource, created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Community Foundation in 2009.

As one of many generous and forward-thinking individuals who have made a legacy gift to the Community Foundation, she is a member of our Community Builders Legacy Society and already a partner in our work to improve the life of the Birmingham region.
